The Hildebrandts are a Mennonite family. Members of this Protestant group live in segregated homogenous communities all over the world, many in Central and South America. Mennonites speak a peculiar language, a mix of old and low German dialects, and reject modern technology. The Hildebrandts have settled in Mexico where they work on the fields of their secluded village Salamanca and adhere to the Mennonite principle: all individuality for the community.
