Close to the river Spree in the Eastern part of Berlin stands a dilapidated former kebab factory that has become an informal shelter for the homeless. They had come from different corners of Europe to the German capital for greater safety and the services offered to people like them. However, during the pandemic much of that has disappeared. The dwellers of the kebab factory often went without food and care. Covid-19 made them even more forgotten. One of them said: “I want the old world back.”
